SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 2018

At 11.00 a.m. on Saturday 22nd September, the Soldiers from B (Rorke’s Drift) Company, 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh marched through Brynmawr  to reaffirm their Freedom of the County Borough of Blaenau Gwent.

 

On a wet Autumn day, hundreds turned out to watch more than 100 soldiers, led by the Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh and the Regimental Goat, Llywelyn, and Goat Major, march through the streets of Brynmawr

 

At 1.00 p.m. a memorial stone to commemorate the award of the Victoria Cross to Company Sergeant Major John H. Williams VC, DCM, MM and bar was unveiled outside Nantyglo Senior Citizen Hall, Chapel Road, Nantyglo.  

CSM Williams was the most decorated Welsh NCO of all time.
