 JANUARY 2025

Are you interested in local history, if so do you have a few hours a week that you could spend volunteering at the Brynmawr Museum.Volunteers are required to staff the Museum during opening hours which are;

Thursday; 9am til 12 noon and 2pm til 4pm

Friday;      10am til 12 noon and 2pm til 4pm

Saturday; 10am til 12 noon.

Volunteers can select suitable days

Duties are to welcome visitors, carry out some simple clerical work and generally keep the Museum tidy

Thursday mornings are coffee mornings when volunteers serve refreshments.I

JANUARY 2025  - BRYNMAWR FURNITURE AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN CENTRE

Attended a service in the Calvary Christian Centre today and noticed these 2 items of Brynmawr Furniture.

Apparently they were passed on from Calvary Chapel in King Street which is now the Buddhist Temple.

FEBRUARY 2025  - THE PASSING OF GEOFF FRANCIS

Sad to hear of the passing of Geoff Francis the son of Roy Francis.

Geoff and his family visited Brynmawr in October 2023 and took part in the unveiling of the memorial to his Dad.

 JUNE 2025

It's with great sadness the Brynmawr Museum and Historical Society mark the passing of our great friend Hwyl Axford.Hwyl was a valuable member of the Society and will be truly missed, he was a true gentleman who always had time for others.Our sincere condolences to his wife Ann and her family.

JUNE 2025

Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University and author of a number of books on rugby has just published a book on Roy Francis who was brought up in Brynmawr. Tony has kindly agreed to give a talk to the Society on his book on Wednesday 18th June at 7pm, the talk will be held in the Brynmawr Social Club at the top of Beaufort Street

All are invited and admission is free, please come along and discover more about what a remarkable player and coach Roy Francis was.

AUGUST 2025

The Brynmawr Museum and Historical Society are saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend Alan Williams.Alan was a founding member of the Museum and a long term member of the Historical Society. He served as Curator of the Museum for many years and along with his wife Viv was the driving force which made the Museum what it is today.Our thoughts are with Viv and family.

The Museum will be closed all day on Thursday 4th September in respect of the funeral of Mr Alan Williams taking place.     Service at 1pm in St Mary's Church followed by cremation at Cwmbran.
