NOVEMBER 2017 - ANNUAL DINNER
The Brynmawr Historical Society held their annual dinner on November 8th 2017. This was the first time for the annual dinner to be held at lunch time. It was held at The Hall Inn in Gwehelog which is on the road between Raglan and Usk.
All agreed that it was a great venue with good food and a lovely atmosphere. The lunch time annual dinner will be held next during November 2018 and if you wish to join us why not become a member of the society at a ridiculous low price of £6 per annum which includes 9 entertaining talks; social evenings; day trips and even a week's holiday (subject to availability).

JUNE 2018 - HISTORICAL SOCIETY "ALL AT SEA".
On Wednesday, June 20th the Brynmawr Historical Society visited the Hafod Morfa Copper works site near Swansea. There they met up with two guides, Ray Collier and Geoff Dendle, who took two parties around the site giving detailed explanations on the way. It was fascinating as they bought to life the area that had once been such an important part of the world copper trade.
Following the guided tour the society headed to Swansea itself and the Maritime museum. Members had time to eat some lunch and visit to the Michael Blackmore exhibition that was in its final days at the museum. Michael Blackmore lived in Abergavenny and did superb drawings of old industrial sites around Gwent, many of you will have seen his interpretation of Clydach Iron Works and the Canal at Gilwern among the many he did. He also did the drawing that graces the society’s Silver Jubilee plate of Beaufort Street, Brynmawr, (see photo below).
The final treat of the day was a river cruise on Copper Jack, the community boat. Again, the boat crew provided a guide who gave the group a potted history of the river and its industrial banks. A good day was had by all.
