AMGUEDDFA A CYMDEITHAS HANESYDDOL BRYNMAWR
Eifion Lloyd Davies
Eifion Lloyd Davies was born in 1949 at Peniel, a small hamlet near Ruthin in Denbighshire, to Evan Gomer Davies (a horseman) and his wife Catherine Davies. As such his first language was Welsh.
After completing his teacher training, He came to Brynmawr in 1974 to teach at Brynmawr CP junior School in Clydach St., and on its closure, moved to Blaen y Cwm School. In both schools he was a highly valued member of staff by boy colleagues and pupils alike.
On his arrival in Brynmawr, Eifion almost immediately became involved in many aspects of the community. His knowledge of both local history and wider was phenomenal and was the result of his passionate research and genuine love of Brynmawr and its surroundings. One particular interest was researching the Chartist movement in the Gwent valleys. This knowledge, he was generous in sharing with everyone.
His other love was music and his breadth of knowledge about well known bands and his enjoyment of the local music scene ran side by side. It also has to be mentioned that his hand made greeting cards depicting local scenes and personal anecdotes were a joy .
Eifion held positions on many societies and organisations. He was chair of the Gwent Heritage Forum, a senior member of Brynmawr Historical Society, a Director of Brynmawr museum, and a trustee of The Nantyglo and Blaina Charter Group and a founder member of the now disbanded Brynmawr Boiler House project to mention just a few.
Eifion narrated several short community videos , the first one was created by students of Newport university and the others by Made in Tedegar Film Studios.
